As this month is a special edition of VD&WD, we have let Arashi take on the challenge of the "simulation psychology test" under the theme of "Valentine dates". The daily romance patterns that they conceal will be made distinct!?

On Valentine's, you have a date with her (the girl you like).

(1) The time that you set with the girl is?
Ohno: (looks at the clock) 11am. Something around the time now is good, don't you think? So we can move starting from now.

Sakurai: Eh, is that day a holiday? It'll change depending on that but... in any case, 11am. No, let's make it 12pm. Because I can't wake up in the morning (laughs).

Aiba: Are we off for the day? ... clearly night I guess. Around the later half of the night. From about 7pm if I'm feeling good, usually. (What do you mean by "feeling good"?) I don't know but, how I feel about my work progress or something. (If it's a day off?) About 10am. After all, the scope (of things) we can do around that time will widen right?

Ninomiya: Valentine's? Let's see, about 3am in the morning I guess. No, let's make it 12am. If this is the case, then we should try to use that day fully!

Matsumoto: About 2pm in the afternoon I guess. I think that it's good to go out while it's bright and, around 1pm... once it's past noon, there'll be a lot of people so we can mix in the crowd. I think it'll be hard for people to find us.

(Commentary) This question shows how deeply you wish to sink into romance. Time indicates the feelings put aside for romance in your life, and the balance of your schedule. If it's early in the morning, then your love is still faint. If it's evening~night, then it's about time for a deep relationship. If it's in the middle of the night, perhaps you've overcome the frame of being lovers and it's about time to get married? That's how it works.

Ohno: For Ohno-san who answered 11am, his romance level is faint. He can be thought of as the type who doesn't sink in hard. But what's interesting here is that, because he said that's the time it is now, it means that he does have feelings of love. So, just in time. It can be said that right now is the time when he's prepared to dive into love.

Sakurai: For Sakurai-san who set a comparatively early time, he shows that his feelings for love are still shallow and faint.

Aiba: He had two answers. The later half of the night and, if it was an off-day, 11am, so it looks like it changes depending on the work situation and such. What we can feel from these answers is a type that goes for both extremes. He can sink into love, on the other hand, he may also not be able to sink into love at all. Rather than depending on his partner, perhaps it depends on his psychological state or his work situation at the time.

Ninomiya: Because we can understand his to be quite early in terms of time, perhaps he has a "faint sense of love", or it seems like he has other stuff he wants to do more than romance. More than dates and a relationship with a partner, the reason for his choice is that he wants to move as actively as he can for the whole day so, perhaps rather than diving into romance, he must have something else that's more important than love, such as work and hobbies.

Matsumoto: People who answer like this, are the types who sink easily into romance. The level of depth is high, and he's a person who will really care for his partner. There may be times where he would want to confine his partner but, he'll also have kindness towards his partner, so he will most likely have a proper balance. Socially, he'll consider the situation and is the type who can have an adult romance.

SATOSHI OHNO
Ohno Satoshi
My collection of works "FREESTYLE" has been released. The finished work is interesting to me, and the staff around me are saying that it's cool too but... I wonder. The members' comments are in it as well but, I haven't seen them yet. I was thinking of enjoying it at the very end (laughs). It seems like everyone drew a portrait of me. They've been saying with quite a bit of confidence, "Mine is definitely good!" and "No, mine is". I'm really looking forward to it. For the long interview, I talked while eating a light meal so, my mouth was kind of smooth too (laughs). For the exhibition, I'm bringing up ideas for the display methods. My first work this year is, a 3m X 6m wall painting that will be displayed at the exhibition. It's a work that looks like graffiti, so it looks good. To the point that it makes me think, wow it's amazing I did that in 3 days (laughs). I drew it with one shot at the studio but, it was really fun~! I want to do it again! What's interesting is that, that studio is really good. The characters of the staff-san were good, and the chanko nabe was delicious too, truly, it has become a good memory. That's why, please buy the book! Come view the exhibition too! Because it'll be the very first and the very last for me, please do. The new song "Step and Go" had the PV recorded the other day but, the next day it remained in my ears the entire time. When I realised it, I was singing it in the bath too (laughs). It's a positive and refreshing song isn't it. Also, I'm thinking of going fishing before rehearsals for the stage play "Amatsukaze" start (laughs). Because it looks like I won't be able to go for the next while. When it's summer, I'll definitely go fishing for bonitos! Even if I have no schedule, I'll go! I really love the sea huh. It feels healthy. It seems like Chinen (Yuuri)-kun wants to go fishing with me too so, I'm kind of thinking, maybe I'll bring him out with me too (laughs). But, I guess I can't bring him out to go night fishing huh... First we'll start as friends, as mail friends I guess (laughs).

(2)Now that the two of you have met up with no problems, you've gone to have a meal. At your seats, you take off your coats. Well then, what is her outfit today?
Ohno: A T-shirt and shorts. Because she's sensitive to heat (laughs).

Sakurai: Eh~??? An outfit that doesn't change from her usual dressing. She doesn't have to put so much thought into Valentine's... (laughs) It's not her birthday either, sort of. Something like a normal sweater and jeans will be fine. After all, it's the Valentine's period right?

Aiba: It's at night right? ... naked (laughs). That's bad huh. Then, something light I guess?

Ninomiya: A judo garb I guess. Black belt. No, green belt huh. I guess she's not strong enough for a black belt yet. Well, she'll come to the date with something that suits her.

Matsumoto: Ehh~, I don't know. A normal knit blouse or, a sweater that looks like it can be found anywhere. She can wear anything for the bottom... then, let's go with a skirt. A normal one, with a good length that's not long or like a mini-skirt (laughs).

(Commentary) This shows your level of "predisposition for unrequited love". In modern psychology, clothes express a societal trait of "persona". People with a predisposition for unrequited love, will have an image of women in thick clothing.

Ohno: Because it's a T-shirt and shorts, the person's very lightly dressed, plus it has a casual feel to it. That's why, he's the type who has a very low level of predisposition for unrequited love. Rather than confessing when he has fallen in love, perhaps from the drawn extension as friends, he'll start to like the person more after his partner confesses to him.

Sakurai: With a sweater and jeans, because it's surprisingly close to normal clothes, his level of predisposition for unrequited love is high as well. Rather than sinking into love with his own image, he'll make his move after carefully looking at the reality of it. Just like his reasoning, "Because it's a cold period, a sweater and jeans", he is also seeking for good sense in his partner. Rather than unrequited love, it feels like he will judge whether to confess or not after watching the situation. That's why, once he likes someone, he's the type to confess after making sure on his own whether he should confess, how, and the timing of it, before he starts going on dates. He can be thought of as a person who can look at a situation intelligently and make judgments.

Aiba: Because that's really lightly dressed, he has almost no predisposition for unrequited love, that's the psychological analysis for Aiba-san. Rather than loving his partner unrequitedly the entire time, he'll place great importance on an encounter or with trifling timing, start going out with the person. He's extremely intuitive, so it can be said that he's the type who can fall in love at first sight.

Ninomiya: That's a very unique answer but, if we have to choose one, he may have a low level of predisposition for unrequited love. But, for people of this type, he will have a unique romance that doesn't capture the common sense, morals, or formality of a normal romance. For example, even if it's a long-distance relationship, or a person of a different status and situation, once he likes that person, it can be considered that he's the type to unrequitedly love the person all the way.

Matsumoto: His level for predisposition for unrequited love seems quite high. Even so, although a knit blouse and skirt is an image of thick clothes, it's standard for a girl's outfit so, it sounds like a very simple girl. That's why, there's a sensation of unrequited love and, once he likes someone, it can be said that he's the type to prolong his feelings for the person.

SHO SAKURAI

I went to India for the new year's. With one hand holding a personal camera that I learnt how to use from "ArashiISM", I went around taking loads of pictures. 1200 ~ 1300 shots in 4 days. Because I was carrying a single-lens round my neck, and a video camera in my right hand. While taking photographs, I was running a video, like a Mister Tourist (laughs). For videos I have 4 volumes X 60 minutes. I've also recorded a message to the me who returned to Japan (laughs). Something like "Right now you're having a life where work is catching up to you aren't you, serves you right! Right now I'm in India you know." I'm looking forward to watching this as I drink next time (laughs). I think I managed to go there with good timing. Although I said "China, India" at "Ichimen!", it changes quite a bit depending on whether you've been there or not. The things I saw, the things I felt, they're all related to work too. I went to Delhi and Agra. For Agra, I went to see the Taj Mahal. From Delhi, it took about 2 hours by train but, I couldn't get the train so it took 5 hours for me to go there by car. Man, I was touched. It's a mosque that's built similarly to the Jama Masjid in Delhi but, the Taj Mahal is something different. Clearly the character is different. There were a lot of people there too. I was at Delhi for a while. I went to places that Gandhi prostrated at during his journey, the India gates, and I went to the official residence of the President as well. On the last day, I thought, let's learn about the real India!, and without using a taxi, moved around on the subways, and went to the bazaar and Delhi station... time-wise it was short but, I think I've done all that I can. Waking up from 7, 8am in the morning (laughs). I explored the streets at night too. I was told that my stomach would be destroyed if I drank water so, I brought water as I went around, and because they didn't sell alcohol, I bought it at Narita too (laughs). I was completely prepared. The food there clearly had herbs in them. If you ask me whether I can take it, I can't but, somehow there's a cultural air to it when you eat it there (laughs). The impressive part about India, is the great number of people. Also, the Hindu religion was interesting too. That world view... we've never come across that before have we? It was fun that there was a culture I didn't know about. Just that, I do regret that I couldn't go to the Gangis River. I think I'll go there next time.

(3) While you're having a meal, your favourite tune plays. What kind of melody is it?
Ohno: Linkin' Park. Because it's playing now.

Sakurai: Let's see~ "Love so sweet" (laughs). It's Valentine-ish isn't it.

Aiba: Because it's a meal, something that's more relaxing is good right? I wonder... a relaxing jazz-type melody is good isn't it? It's not too noisy either.

Ninomiya: I think "A. RA. SHI". This one, I guess. With a catchy beat.

Matsumoto: Led Zeppelin (laughs). I don't really know but, that was the one that came to mind instantly.

(Commentary) Music is the ideal romance that you hope for. People who chose a noisy song, will have a drawn out extension-type romance with a friend who cheers along with you and your friends. People who chose a calm song, are the types who want to relax, and spend a sweet time with just their girlfriends on a rest day.

Ohno: Because it's a melody that was playing in the studio, in Ohno-san's case, it can be thought that he's the kind who doesn't seem to care much for the ideal romance, or something like the aesthetics of romances that absolutely cannot be left out. The fact that he chose a song that was playing so casually too, shows that his own ideal romance is not established, that it evolves with that moment's mood and atmosphere as well.

Sakurai: A type of relationship that openly has fun and parties with friends, with that, it's not that he'll raise a ruckus, but that he's the type to have a romance under the condition where his own feelings and the way he interacts with the girl matches. The fact that he chose an Arashi song, may show that he wants to introduce his girlfriend to everyone in Arashi, or his feelings of dating the girl openly.

Aiba: His ideal romance is a love that's moody and sweet. Like a calming jazz piece, it's an image that speaks of a calming, matured, intellectual romance. If you put that together with the situation as well, such as falling in love at first sight then, he may fall deep in love by instinct.

Ninomiya: People who pick a song with a good beat, are the types who will party with friends as a group, even if they have a girlfriend. Because he's saying that he'll listen to an Arashi song with the girl in a moody restaurant, if he does get a girlfriend, perhaps he'll introduce her to the Arashi members without hiding anything, and he'll build a very open relationship.

Matsumoto: The fact that that song came to mind casually is a key point but, for these kind of people who have songs appear to them instantly through inspiration and sensation, they're the type who want to spend sweet moments, with a focus on the mood. But, because he himself doesn't really understand, he's so shy he can't really say that out loud. As an ideal romance, we can see a deep-level of psychology where he wants a romance that overflows with sweet, moody emotions but, he can't really say that out loud, or perhaps he has no self-awareness.

KAZUNARI NINOMIYA

Right now, I've been playing games this entire time. It's fun you know. Because I'm playing games this often, I've been told, why don't you aim for a game CM? or, why don't you do a game series? but, without doing that sort of thing, I want to fully enjoy the path of games simply on my own (smirks). Because it's fun, really. Everyday, I'm playing them like it's my daily routine. Because I play any games like RPG and action and shooting and arcade types, even if I'm asked, what kind of game did you play?, it's hard to answer. Because, I play anything. Besides that, I don't really do anything else. I went to my relative's home for new year's, and there wasn't any other place to go to so, without meeting anyone it had become today. Something like that. Also, I've been watching TV the whole time too I guess. I watched a comedy program. Regardless of whether it's funny or not, I think it's amazing. That they've been doing comedy programs this whole time. As I watched it casually, there was a talent that I was curious about too... I can't say it here (smirks). In the single talent, the two-person groups and the 3-person groups, there were people I was curious about. Well it was fun. Right right, Arashi will have a new song out. This time it has a refreshing feel to it... that's what I think anyway. The beat is good, and it's winter-ish, so more than the way it appears to fit the graduation season, I think it has an Arashi-like feel to it.

(4) After the meal is over, you receive a Valentine present from the girl. Well then, what is that?
Ohno: A T-shirt and shorts. She'll say, "You should dress like me!" (laughs).

Sakurai: Homemade cookies (immediate response). I really love homemade cookies. There's a warm feel to it too. Handmade things on Valentine's is good. But, to go so far as to a hand-knit sweater... just cookies is good (laughs).

Aiba: Chocolate. After all, it's Valentine's right? Of course, clearly, it's heart-shaped chocolates. (If you can receive an item?) What would it be? A T-shirt. A rather normal one.

Ninomiya: The belt that she was wearing (laughs). "Because I've already risen to black, I'll give it to you." Because the period when she was a green belt was the longest, she'll say, "Although the belt I had when I spent time with you was green, because I've already risen up to black, I want you to have it."

Matsumoto: Chocolates right? It's Valentine's isn't it? (If you received something besides that?) A handkerchief or something. For Valentine's, won't you give a handkerchief? That's the kind of image I have.

(Commentary) Presents are a representation of the romance the two will have in the future. You can tell what kind of romance you'll have from here. People who chose a favourite CD or cologne, things that will affect the five senses, will appear to have sensitive romance with a mood and atmosphere. They may have a sudden love or fall in love at first sight. People who chose underwear or socks, realistic items or things to be worn, will have a love that's slow and certain. But, there's possessiveness in things that can be worn. So that person's quite easily jealous...

Ohno: It's an item that goes with the girl's but, the situation doesn't separate too far from the future, and it can be thought that he's the type to realistically and decisively nurture a relationship with the girl. Very frank and open, a person whose romance image changes more and more with the sensations, situations and that moment's inspirations. But, because he wants to dress in things that matches with the girl's, he may unexpectedly like to tie down, or be tied down by his partner. Although they were like friends before they started dating, the relationship may change in that he may suddenly start sticking to the person all the time after they go out.

Sakurai: He immediately responded with handmade cookies. For this, it seems like he really has a lot of thought in it. I think that Sakurai-san's future romance will be a warm relationship that overflows with care. A domestic person who's good at cooking is especially matching. For "hand-knit sweaters", because it's fine if the person doesn't put in that much effort into it, he doesn't want her to stick onto him, but perhaps he will respect her pace, and follow a romance pattern that has a sense of balance.

Aiba: He'll have a casual and fun love with a person who has normal sense in the future. A moody and sweet love is his ideal but, it can be thought that, in reality, he wants to build a relationship that he can naturally enjoy.

Ninomiya: At first glance, his answers can be considered unique for a psychology test but, the belt that the girl was wearing would mean, he places great importance in the person's spirit. To hold that person's uniqueness, special features and spirit dear, that's the future shape of Ninomiya-san's love. Because it means that he wants to receive presents of items to be worn, he may be the type who will bind down the girl. His wish to connect with the girl spiritually, and have a deep understanding with her, seems to be strong.

Matsumoto: Because his answer is chocolate, the future shape of Matsumoto-san's romance is, a wholesome and very normal one. To receive a handkerchief = means to value honesty and purity. He's the type to go out with a person who has a pure sense of honesty in the future, and will properly build forth a wholesome romance. Once it's the appropriate time, he may also consider marriage.

MASAKI AIBA
Aiba Masaki
Recently right, yesterday, we recorded the new song's PV. It took quite some time to record it so, it ended late but, after that friends came to my house to play, so we played games the entire time. We played soccer games, and putter... see, there's a putter practice mat that looks like it can be found in your boss's office right? I received it from a friend before, so I brought that out, and we competed to see who could hit the best! I don't really play so seriously, when it comes to games though (laughs). Lately, in the morning, I've taken a liking to eating Chinese. Today I ate Chinese too. With my friends, the three of us each ordered mabo tofu and qingjiao rousi and hui guo rou, and divided it amongst everyone. Somehow, I love Chinese early in the morning. I eat it at my parent's home, and I eat it at Chinese restaurants outside of my parent's home too. I was brought up at a Chinese restaurant, so maybe I have that influence too. Then, after doing the interview for duet, I have one more work to do today, then once everything is over, I intend to go have my hair cut. It's grown quite a bit hasn't it? It has somehow become annoying. When I was performing the stage play "Wasureranai Hito", it was so long that it was tough~ When I ate food it got in the way, and I couldn't really stand that so, once it was over I immediately cut it but, it grew back again. I haven't decided what hairstyle to have but, I won't pull out a colour that will hurt my hair (laughs).

(5) The both of you are now full. What's next?
Ohno: After a meal, it's time for an afternoon nap. At Yoyogi park (laughs).

Sakurai: What shall we do? Shopping, movies, something like that, right? Well, we might watch a movie I guess? "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"! Because if we think of Valentine's, it's chocolate. Eh, it's already over? Then, we'll find a place that's screening it (laughs). Frankly anything's fine though, even a walk. Maybe we'll walk a bit, then go to the movies~

Aiba: We're full right? What shall we do after we're full? Take a walk? Or, maybe a marathon. Even so, after eating I'd go home. That or, go drinking (laughs).

Ninomiya: Hm~m, go to a batting center I guess. She'll catch that ball with her bare hands. It's to measure the strength of her grip. She'll catch a ball flying at the speed of 120km with her bare hands, release it, then catch and release another one... Clearly, (the answers for) a psychology test don't work if they're not interesting enough to jump lightly. (The ideal course for a date is to) play games at home. Something like separately doing the things that we like?

Matsumoto: ... drink till we're mellow (laughs). We can't? I'm saying stuff in the wrong direction? I think a situation like the one in the photograph is good though. After eating food, it's good to be laid-back isn't it?

(Commentary) In other words, this is what you want to do with the girl, or places you want to go to. And, the form of your love in reality.

Ohno: This means that rather than romance, he wants to relax so, perhaps he's tired right now. He wants to have a relaxing rest, he wants to sleep, that appears to be his current psychological depth right now.

Sakurai: A realistic romance, is one that normal lovers can have, a love that has a great sense of balance. There's a fine sense of detail and kindness in searching for a movie theater so, once he starts dating, he's the type of person who will contact his partner, send her mail, and have a caring mind that won't want his partner to worry.

Aiba: Several answers have come out. He has an image of one who hasn't really fallen in love yet in reality. A walk or a marathon or a meal or a drink... because anything is fine, it's hard to define. I feel that this appears to be his honest feelings, where maybe he still hasn't loved in the real sense of the word, or perhaps his feelings haven't been established yet at this point of time.

Ninomiya: I've attained a very interesting answer. At first he said batting center, so I think that rather than romance, he wants to move around actively, to play with her, but at the end he wants to play games at home or do something he likes = it means that, actually, they'll be doing things that they want to do on their own at home. In conclusion, the feeling to move around actively is strong but, when it's an actual romance, it feels like he truly wants to relax with things that they each like to do at their own pace at home, no matter what.

Matsumoto: The reality of Matsumoto-san's romance is, a laid-back romance that moves at its own pace, with no weary feel to it. If the person likes alcohol, then they'll drink together without reserve... that's the form of his love in reality that we can consider.

JUN MATSUMOTO

Now that the new year has begun, it feels like work has finally started. For the new year's, I stayed at home. This year, I did the Countdown, went to pay the first visit to the temple, then went home like that and slept. Relaxed and watched TV. I thought, there really is nothing to do during new year's. It's the first time since our debut, that I had such a relaxing new year's. Although I surprisingly had nothing to do, I'm glad that I could relax. I slept for about 15 hours in 1 day after all. I'll sleep in, I'll sleep in, I said (laughs). This was something that happened a little while before but, the Countdown was interesting. Because it was our first time as hosts, and a long time since a live broadcast. With the single that played right before the beginning (preface), we didn't enter until the middle of the program's title. In that instant, all of us burst out laughing. We said, we're awful (laughs). Nino said, "If we can't do this next time too, let's have it changed to TOKIO." (laughs). But, because we couldn't get in within that 5 seconds, we got more comfortable, and maybe the advancement after that become easier to do. We were all flustered with the arrangement, and it ended in the blink of an eye but, it was fun. You know, Nino had his hair wet the entire time. That left an impression (laughs). Also, I watched Kinki's concert. December 30, before the rehearsal for Countdown. It was simple but, I thought that the practiced formations were good. It's been a while since I've watched Kinki's lives so, there were songs that I haven't heard for a while, and it was interesting. Also, for my activities, the filming for the movie "Hana Yori Dango~FINALE~" has begun as well, and a single will be released too. For the first half of his period, I think the 5 members of Arashi will start to have lots of activities so, we're releasing a song at an early timing... with the first activity for Arashi being a new song release, I'd like to move forward in a good state. I'll be moving quite a bit this year too. Without stopping. I can already see that so, it feels like it has finally begun. The 4 days of rest in new year's, are like a preparation period for that.



JUN MATSUMOTO
The type to dive naturally into romance. It seems like he can have unrequited love, and once he likes someone, he'll prolong those feelings as well. As an ideal love, he focuses on the mood, and he wants to spend sweet moments with the person. But, he doesn't really have self-awareness for that. He may be so shy that he can't say that out loud. An ideal for the future is, a romance that overflows with normal wholesomeness and honest purity. If it develops, he's the type who may also have a wholesome marriage. His love in reality is perhaps something that is relaxing and moves at its own pace, so it won't be tiring.

KAZUNARI NINOMIYA
If we have to pick one, rather than romance, it's seeping out that he wants to play actively, or have something else he'd prefer to do. He's not the type to sink into romance or any type of mood but, he's a person who can hold a sense of balance for a wholesome, open romance that includes partying with friends. He really values uniqueness, as well as the spiritual connection with the person.

MASAKI AIBA
His special feature is that his love pattern can't be defined. His level of sinking into love is at two extremes, and he's the type who doesn't hold his feelings quietly to himself for too long. He'll love someone instantly just through instinct, or naturally begin a relationship after a drawn-out extension with a friend. It's just that, it can be considered that his feelings still aren't directed just to love, that his heart is taken by other interests here and there. It feels like, on one hand, his ideal is a moody and adult romance, but in reality that's still...

SHO SAKURAI
A comparatively faint love, not the type to sink into it, and he wants to have a relationship while being open to friends about it. Once he likes someone, he's loyal. It looks like he can check the surrounding circumstances for the timing to bring up dating, and make a logical decision. The image of romance that he's hoping for in the future, is a warm, caring one. Perhaps a domestic person is perfect for him. Just that, he seeks for independence in his partner as well, and maybe a little put off by people who sink into it just for him. It seems like he'll have a romance with a good sense of balance, like normal lovers. He has honesty, kindness, and a fine eye for detail... in other words, it feels like the image of romance that he imagined on his own and the reality of it, is not really out of place and has a good balance. As he has no huge expectations with regards to romance, once he starts dating someone, he's the type to value that person in front of him very well. It's not that he loves romance, but that he's a person who will accept his partner's uniqueness, and beyond that, will look over things he wants to do, as well as the things his partner wants to do.

SATOSHI OHNO
He's not the type to sink into romance but, if the sensation and conditions allow it, right now, he has feelings for romance. It seems like he doesn't show his love on his end, but will have the love develop from friendship. He doesn't really consider much about the image of his ideal romance, and what he wants to do in the future either, and is a very flexible type that thinks it's fine to change depending on that moment's situation and his partner. Until he starts dating, he'll be cool, at his own pace, and gives off a feeling like there's no hold on him but, once he starts dating, he'll be quite manly, and surprisingly easily jealous.... perhaps the aspect that overflows with human flavour will come out.

Everyone was more realistic than I had expected, with a good balance, and I felt uniqueness from all of them.
The one who has the least gap between his reality and the image of his future is Sakurai-san.
